Q&A

Millal ja kuidas saab meid külastada?
Meie võõrustajaks on Kai kunstikeskuses asuv restoran Kampai. Asume Kampai restorani parkla poolse ukse juures.

When and where can I visit?
Outside Kai Art Center near the Kampai restaurant, which is kindly hosting us. By the way, you can order any food and drink from there and other nearby restaurants to enjoy at the sauna. The open sauna is every day from 6pm to 10pm usually, while private bookings are usually available all day before that. Contact us at tere@estoniansaunas.com if you want to check the schedule. We'll also post the schedule on social media at the start of each day.

Kuidas saab sauna broneerida?
Kirjuta meile aadressil tere@estoniansaunas.com. Sauna saab broneerida era-üritusteks kaheks tunniks 80€ eest ja avatud sauna pääs on 12€. Kohapealt on võimalik rentida ka saunarätik 4€ eest. Sauna mahub kasutama maksimaalselt 6 inimest samal ajal, kuid sauna ees asub ka puhkeala.

Saunas või sauna puhkealal viibides võib end katta saunalinaga või ujumisriietega. Restoranidesse, või nende tualettruumidesee sisenedes tuleb end riietada.

What’s the dress code?
You just need to cover up with a towel or swimsuit during open sauna sessions and when relaxing outside, including when you go to the toilet in the main building.

Kas ma tohin ronida ZiL-131 juhikabiini ja teha pilte kus ma teesklen et ma autoga sõidan?
Jah! Ainuke asi, et ära päriselt minema sõida!

Can I climb in the front of the truck and take pictures of me pretending to drive it?
Yes! But please don’t drive it away.

What’s on the menu?
You can order any food and drink from Kampai, which is hosting us, as well as other restaurants in the area. Kampai has a great selection of authentic Japanese cuisine, which you can check out here: https://kampai.ee/menu/. There will be a table and chairs outside the ZiL or you can just go eat after enjoying the sauna.

Mida huvitavat veel toimub Noblessneris?
Kunagine Tsaari-Venemaa allveelaevade tehas, Noblessneri piirkond, on olnud suletud avalikkusele pea terve eelmise sajandi. Kindlasti soovitame külastada Kai kunstikeskust, kes on meie pop-up sauna ellu kutsunud. Meie ava päeval on jahisadamasse oodata palju külastajad, kuna aset leiab regatt. Vaata siit tervet ürituste kalendrit: https://noblessner.ee/uudised/noblessneri-suvesundmused-2020.

What else is happening in Noblessner?
Once a major submarine shipyard for Tsarist Russia, Noblessner has been closed to ordinary people for most of the past century. However, it has now been regenerated into a thriving seafront quarter packed with bars, cafes, and culture among historic buildings. Don’t miss a visit to the fantastic Kai Art Center above the sauna. The marina will be busy on our opening day because the regatta is taking place at the same time. Here’s a schedule of events: https://noblessner.ee/uudised/noblessneri-suvesundmused-2020.

Kas piirkonnas on veel teisigi saunu?
Jah. Ning iga saun esindab omaette ajastut Eesti minevikust. Võite külastada vana avalikku Kalma sauna, teater-sauna-klubi Heldeke’st, Lennusadama sauna või õllerestoran Põhjala tap room’i sauna.

Any other saunas in the area?
Yes. And each one reflects a unique part of Estonian history. Check out the old public Kalma saun, the underground theatre and sauna club Heldeke, the sauna at Seaplane Harbour Marina behind the museum, and the sauna inside the bar at Põhjala Brewery. We’re happy to promote others because we are all working together to preserve Estonian sauna culture and share good leil with more people from around the world. In fact, you might say all these saunas from the Old Town to Noblessner form a new ‘Tallinn Sauna Trail’.

What’s the history of the ZiL-131 SAUN?

The ZiL-131 was an icon of its era. They were produced by Zavod imeni Likhachyova, a major automotive plant built near Moscow at the end of Tsarist rule and opened under the new management of the Soviet Union. For almost a century, ZiL produced the heavy vehicles that sustained the military and industrial might of the Soviet Union, as well as the luxury vehicles used by the Communist Party elite. These vehicles even had their own special ‘ZiL lanes’ with absolute right of way over ordinary people. The ZiL-131s rolled off the production line in the 1960s as a versatile six wheel drive vehicle designed to do the heavy lifting for the Soviet Army. This one in front of you was one of the last ZiL-131s to be produced in the late 1980s before it was then deployed to Estonia. As the men who drove it here discovered though, the road of history always has unexpected turns. The military might of the Soviet Army turned out to be ineffective against the Singing Revolution led by mass choirs demanding the end of the Soviet occupation. Estonia regained independence in 1991 and, following 50 years of occupation, Russian forces withdrew in 1994, leaving behind this vehicle which was then seized for use by the new Estonian Army. The Estonian Army used this vehicle until 2008 when it was finally retired and given a new lease of life.. as a sauna. We plan to renovate it with additional Estonian design, including a new HUUM stove, and take it beyond our borders to help us share Estonian sauna design, technology, and traditions with more people around the world. It exists here today as a celebration of human freedom and Estonian culture, the very things this truck was sent here to prevent flourishing.

Loe ja jälgi @EstonianSaunas tegemisi pikemalt meie Instagram’i, YouTube'iFacebook’i ja Twitter’i lehekülgedelt või külasta meie e-poodi aadressil www.estoniansaunas.com.

Who is running the ZiL-131 saun?
The ZiL-131 SAUN is operated by Anni and Adam. We’re passionate about sharing Estonia sauna design, technology, and traditions with more people around the world. We are renovating the vehicle inside with more Estonian design, including a HUUM stove, and will in future use it as a showcase for exports.
